Dear List,

Gail's post brought to mind something my physician and I discussed
about 3 years ago regarding formal diagnosis. I had been diagnosed
with CD many many years ago. As either a fluke, or the fact that
we weren't so "centralised" with insurance records, it wasn't
in my file.

My dr., very wise and progressive, said that there is no medical
treatment for CD, only treatment for complications that may arise from
it. Having it on record that I have CD, may prevent
the insurance company from covering me, should I get sick
from the complications of our disease.

My question to the list: What are the benefits of being formally
diagnosed? I understand that some of us are "silent" celiacs
and are diagnosed when get sick with other ailments like,
diabetes, arthritis, ADD, etc... I guess this question is for
the people who feel that gluten is a poison to them, but they
have yet, or can't get, a diagnosis.

This question is to figure out if I'm taking the right course with the
treatment of my disease. I am NOT suggesting that anyone follow the
same course as I. Only kind, thoughtful answers, please.

Thanks!!
