Hi. I recently posted an inquiry on GF molasses. I had called Grandmas and did
not get a definitive answer. I was unable to reach the folks at Brer Rabbit.
Here are the results:
-I never got through to Brer Rabbit, but one member said that she got ill from
eating it.
-2 people got the answer directly from Grandma's recently that it is GF, one
as recently as Nov. 98
-Grandma's is listed on Abigail's list as GF
http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/4003/gf-index.html
-The Tri-County Community Products Listing lists New Morning Black Strap
Molasses as GF as of 8/98. It may be found in health food stores
-One person uses local sorghum syrup purchased in the farmer's market in place
of molasses
-One person stated that since molasses is made from pure cane sugar, it ought
to be GF. From talking with the Grandma's rep I learned that they add things
to it. Grandma's adds Red Star yeast.

I made my bread with Grandma's and I am fine. The bread is delicious and I
have no usual symptoms from an accidental gluten ingestion. I will continue to
use it. Enjoy the holidays!
