Hi Everyone,

I have received several emails cautioning me about eating at Subway because of cross contamination issues. Some people even said that they would go without eating before eating at a Subway.

I certainly understand their concerns and share some of them. I am not advocating eating at Subway or any of the other restaurants about which I have posted GF information. Sometimes, however, you just have to have something to eat and none of the preferable choices are around.

We have traveled a great deal since my husband was diagnosed with celiac disease which is now six years ago. Even though we plan ahead and always bring food along, there have been a few times when we had run out of food, etc. and had to find a place to get something to eat. Unfortunately, Subway was the only thing around.

At all of the Subways that we visited except one, the employees were willing to change into new gloves and prepare a fresh salad. We even had them put the meat in the salad without cutting it up as we figured that would be safer, but not perfect.

Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world -- that, of course, would be gluten free!!! We know that we run the risk of cross contamination every time we eat out, but we choose to eat out anyway. That certainly does not mean that everyone else should do the same. We all have to make our own decisions.

I will continue to post restaurant information for those of you who are interested.

Enjoy!
