Hi All,

Thank you again to everyone that responded to my question regarding Culver's
Restaurant. Unfortunately, our family plans changed and we ended up not
going to Culver's - - so I'm unable to report our experience. But I did call
the company before we left and I talked to a Bill??? who told me he/Culver's
are very aware of Celiac Disease and that as we speak Culver's is having all
their food analyzed for Gluten (GREAT!!) So I would think in the months
ahead you should see Gluten listed on their allergen list along side wheat. I
specifically asked him about the hamburgers and fries. He said the
hamburgers are Gluten Free but they are cooked on the grill where the buns are warmed
up also. So this depends on high of an intolerance you have. He said that
buns are warmed up on one side and the hamburgers are cooked on the other
side. Vanilla Custard , mashed potatoes are GF. Fries are GF too -----
but...... it will vary from restaurant to restaurant for cross-contamination
since it is possible that an employee might fry up something that is breaded.
Or you need to find out when the oil has been changed. Bill said he
would not take the chance, for health safety reasons, to recommend eating the
fries due to cross contamination.
I did receive a good 10-15 messages from people that have eaten at Culver's.
Almost everyone had a good experience. Vanilla Shakes are highly
recommended. And they didn't have any problems with hamburger and fries (they made
sure with Manager that the oil was fresh and nothing had been put in the fryer
other than fries). --- I have included a message from Suzanne that has had
an excellent experience with Culver's. Thanks Suzanne!!!
_____________
I love Culver's, and they are just as nice corporately as they are in
their stores. Yes, their web page sort of misses the mark in terms
of being helpful, but I did check them out in some regard.

If you have specific questions regarding something you like to eat,
you can call Wendy Dodge, in their central offices, at 608-644-2126.

Important in her advice is that most Culver's are set up to have a
dedicated frying tub for French fries, but she was cautious to say it
does not always happen. However, she told me to always seek out the
manager when I go there to order my food -- which is what I have
done. Twice, he has made sure the fries oil was fresh that day, and
not contaminated. However, once I did go in there on an extremely
busy day, and he said that he was sorry, but they had to use all
their tubs for everything.

The other thing Wendy told me to check with the manager is to make
sure they DO scrape and thoroughly clean the grill where they prepare
any meat I order. At Culver's, they do toast their buns on the grill
-- they are SUPPOSED to clean it off after each cooking, but, again,
she was realistic to say it does not always happen. All I can say
is, that the manager has always been great, and happy to see my meal
through, to make sure nothing happens to it.

I was told that the fries are not seasoned with anything but salt and
pepper, and do not contain any gluten -- just as long as the oil in
the frying tub is clean and uncontaminated. Likewise the hamburger
patties and lemon-butter chicken breasts are gluten-free. Something
else that is very good, and gluten-free, is their pot roast -- just
ask them to give it to you without the gravy.

The salads are generally fine, as long as they are made with the
grilled chicken and ask them to hold the croutons or other add-ons
that would clearly contain gluten. Their salads are pretty straight
forward. I will say that I don't feel terribly comfortable with the
salad dressings as they are listed in the website -- but, again, if
there is a specific dressing you want to know about, they will check
it out for you. I have a problem with soybean oil, so I steer clear
of processed dressings anyway.
