Hello all

In regard to the excerpt from the Greater Boston Celiac/DH Support Group
The Healthy Villi newsletter October 2002 Postman's Pouch Column, please
note the reply to the question was excerpted from

Sulley's Living Without Magazine with permisison from the publisher. I want
to be sure that the proper credit is given. Please refer to the Source
given below.

Q. I never thought about the communion host. What do I do about Holy
Communion? E.H.

A. Some alternative choices are: refrain from taking the host, arrange for
a substitute wafer acceptable to your church or church leaders, or take
just the wine, as long as it can be kept free of wafer contamination. The
Catholic Church's Code of Canon Law permits priests to set aside a special
wine chalice exclusively for worshippers following wheat or gluten-free
diets. This eliminates the possibility of the hosts accidentally
contaminating the wine. The Canon Law also offers parishioners the
alternative of drinking only wine.

The United Methodist, Christian Reform, Lutheran, Episcopal and some other
denominations will accommodate the special dietary needs of the
parishioners.
