We had a great holiday party gluten-free meeting, especially because of
tasting gluten-free beer!! Our members called that a highlight! We had 52
celiacs register, although they brought spouses and friends with them, too,
who also tasted the beer, so we probably had about 80 people. We had a very
jolly group!
As it turned out, Lakeshore Brewery in Wisconsin found out we were
tasting GF beer, so they shipped a case of their New Grist Beer for us to
taste. Therefore, our members got a good comparison.
The Redbridge beer is made from Sorghum, corn, yeast, imported Hallertau
& Domestic Cascade hop varieties and water.
The New Grist Beer is brewed from Sorghum, hops, water, rice and
gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. (www.newgrist.com)
They liked both. They thought the Redbridge beer tasted most like the
beer they remember (before diagnosis and gluten-free diet). The New Grist
beer was kind of a "light" beer, but very acceptable, too. Our members are
waiting for the opportunity to buy gluten-free beer in a specialty store or
grocery store near them. The Redbridge beer is supposed to be launched
around December 18. The New Grist Beer is supposed to make it into Texas
markets in January, they say.
We are delighted they let us be the first to try gluten-free beer in
Texas!
