Dear List Members,

1) Comments and reactions
2) Travelling in Italy
3) More detailed Information about Eating Out Project in Italy
4) Eating Out in the States
5) Eating Out Projects in the rest of the world (only Canada)
6) Members of Parliament Testing in Italy

1) Comments and reactions
People wrote to congratulate for the Eating Out Project and the testing of the members of Parliament in Italy.
One person wrote:
"As an American who thinks of Italy and pasta as irrevocably linked, it is amazing to me to find how aware and involved the Italians are in celiac disease."
That's exactly the point. Since we love pasta, pizza, and food in general, it is very important to us Italian that gf food is as good and as available as "normal" food.

2) Travelling in Italy
A person, who lived in Italy almost 2 years, wrote a blog about eating gf there: www.wayoftheceliactraveler.blogspot.com
She relied on the restaurants of the Italian Coeliac Society and recommended them everybody.

3) More detailed Information about Eating Out Project in Italy
One person wanted to learn more about the project in Italy, for instance about the course for the restaurants. I do not have this information, so I suggest you should contact directly the Italian Coeliac Society:
main page http://www.celiachia.it/
page in English http://www.celiachia.it/voyager/
contact information http://www.celiachia.it/associazione/segreterie.asp
On the left side of the page you see the menu with the links to the contact information of each regional society. The regional societies are very active.

4) Eating Out in the States
In the United States, most of the gluten-free dining programs have been done only on a local level. A person wrote she did it in San Antonio, Texas. Restaurant reviews of this program, called "Defensive Dining", are on the website www.alamoceliac.org
"Several years ago in New York, a support group started a Gluten Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP). As well, one of the national groups in the United States, the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) has for several years been working with a few corporate restaurant programs to get gluten-free menus.
Now, the GIG has adopted the GFRAP so that there can be a national database of both corporate-owned and individually owned restaurants. The Alamo Celiac support group is a member of the GIG, and the head of this group, Anne Barfield, is on the board to help structure this new national GFRAP! We are all waiting to learn more about this program!"
Then, the famous Anne Barfield wrote as well: "Come visit in San Antonio, Texas some day and stay at our totally gluten free Bed and Breakfast. More than half of our guests are gluten free, and love the gf food. Many of them come back again and again." Website: www.chickenparadise.com

5) Eating Out Projects in the rest of the world (only Canada)
A person wrote she is working on a project in Canada (Toronto): "The Canadian Celiac Association (me and some others) are startign to work with the Gluten Intolerance Group of the US and they have a great program....www.gluten.net- check out GFRAP (Gluten-free restaurant awareness program). The US has a great book too put out by Triumph Dining (www.triumphdining.com). There is also a US travel group (www.bobandruths.com) that organized gluten-free vacations. I ate at some the restaurants part of GFRAP in the US and did not get remotely sick....it was wonderful."

6) Members of Parliament Testing in Italy
"A grand idea". Everybody appreciated this initiative. I guess it will take some time before we hear something about the results. I'll let you know.

Sincerely,
Maria Paola
