In a recent post, it was mentioned that sheetrock or drywall may contain
wheat starch. I was also interested in this subject because I am finishing
our basement and drywalling it and applying the joint compound generates
quite a bit of dust, etc. It gets everywhere. Before starting, I
contacted a representative of a manufacturer of Sheetrock and Sheetrock
joint compounds. On reading the ingredients of a Lightweight Joint
Compound, a "wheat ingredient" was listed. The representative said that
the other All Purpose (Non-Lightweight) joint compound did not contain this
wheat ingredient. Further the drywall also did not. Unfortunately, I do
not have the info to contact the company with me now, but if someone wants
I can get it later.

A note for new construction home owners. After our house was drywalled, we
asked the developer to maticulously clean the house (flushing out heating
ducts, etc.) after the drywalling phase was finished as it generated much
fine dust. They willingly did with no problems.
