Thank you to all who responded to my query about lung problems. I have
areas of inflammation in both lungs and a biopsy yielded no diagnosis or
cause. Many posters concurred with the possibility of it being another
autoimmune disease as these are not uncommon to celiacs. Some suggestions
include sarcoidosis (appears to have some link to CD), a fungus such as
aspergillus, myesthenia gravis, and Wegener's granulamtosis. Also, soft
tissue diseases like lupus, scleroderma, TB, and SARS need to be ruled
out. One person had lung problems long before the CD diagnosis and didn't
think there was a correlation.
Several people also have heart as well as lung problems and that struck a
chord with me because my presenting sympton was intermittent atrial
fibrillation, five years ago.
One poster asked if I had ever been in a vehicle accident with airbag
deployment, as the powder in the airbag can cause lung problems. (Does
not apply to me, thankfully.)
Some other good advice include the suggestions to go for a second opinion
if this does not get resolved and to be sure to stay away from sick people
while I'm on the prednisone and for weeks afterward.
Thank you all so much for thinking along with me. I now know what to
research and which questions to ask when I see the specialist again.
Bea
