Here's the scoop on Butterball lunchmeats:

It is apparently GF. The modified food starch is corn or potato derived unless it says otherwise.

My problem with it could have been a reaction to the additives or dairy ingredients. I am sensitive to cow's milk, and I am trying to see how much of it in trace amounts in other foods I can get away with.

One person suggested cross-contamination. That is a likely possibility. I live with a roommate who leaves crumbs around, in the drawers, etc. It is enough to cause total gluten-oia. I don't use the same cutting board or pans and I try to keep the kitchen as clean as I can, but even sharing a refrigerator seems to pose hazards because wheat breads are kept in the fridge. I know it is not the ideal situation. I am moving soon and will give the kitchen in my new place a thorough cleaning, but again, I will be living with someone who is not GF. Any suggestions on how to minimize cross-contamination would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, SE
