My question was about the drug Methotrexate and its effects on celiacs. I was concerned about the damage it might do on an already compromised intestine. I appreciate all your responses. You've given me more confidence and I'll most likely go ahead and give this drug a try. Thank you so much!
a.. One responder took methotrexate for a condition unrelated to CD for 6 months, several years ago, and had no change in celiac status - was no more or less sensitive than normal - and had normal reactions from gluten mistakes.
b.. One who is on Methotrexate now is often nauseous but feels in general a lot better after starting taking it and has a lot more energy.
c.. One who was on it for several years because of arthritis had no ill effects and says it was fine.
d.. Another recommended glutenfreedrugs.com, not to look it up, but to email the pharmacist who runs it. He is very informed. The email address is on the site.
e.. One responder suggested removing nightshades from the diet (tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers, cayenne, chilipowder, paprika, tobacco) for those who might be thinking of Methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. It seemed to be effective for this person.
Thank you, once again.
