Hi Sheri

I am Catholic and have recently had to deal with this problem. I first tried
asking the priest to break off a small fragment of the Host for me. This,
however, still caused a reaction no matter how small the fragment. I talked
to a priest about the problem and we decided that I would take Communion in
wine form only. A further problem was that in the Catholic Mass the priest
breaks a piece of the bread into the wine cup. We decided that I would have
my own cup of wine which he would consecrate along with the bread and wine
and give me my own separate Communion. This becomes quite a production, and
some priests are less cooperative than others, therefore I end up taking
Communion only about once a month. Not an ideal solution, but the best we
could come up with. I'd love to hear if someone has a better arrangement.

We also have in our parish a 7 year old Celiac who will soon make his 1st
Communion. Obviously, the solution we came up with for me won't work for
him. Does anyone have any ideas?

Peter
