Hi Listmates,

I have a friend who heard on the radio about the results of the Fasano study. I had spoken to her a few days earlier about the fact that most doctors diagnose CD from very outdated criteria, and that one does not have to be severely underweight to have it. She is very overweight, and I'm sure her family doctor had not even considered testing her for that reason. She and her husband called me after hearing the radio report and said they wanted to talk to me about the diet, because they think they both have the symptoms described on the radio. She suffers from IBD, and I think it is very possible that she has CD. I advised her not to go on the diet without researching it well (recommended celiac.com as a first step), and that even then she might ask for testing to see if she has the antibodies before she tries that, since it means a vast amount of changes for them. She does not have health insurance, since in Oregon insurance companies have to either accept or reject a person altogether for previous conditions. So testing would be at her own expense. Does anyone have other suggestions or recommendations that I could make? Thanks. Nancy in So. Oregon
