I'm happy to report that as of this week, the Whole Foods in Sacramento,
California, now carries a goodly selection of their Gluten Free Bakehouse
baked goods. The breads, pizza crusts, biscuits, and muffins are shipped in
frozen from their bakery in North Carolina, and are then unfrozen for
display and sale. I urged them to offer some in their frozen case, but I
don't think they have room there. They did offer to sell me some of the
baked goods from their freezer in back, however, and I will take them up on
it on another day (I wasn't going directly home today). I bought some of
their cream biscuits to go with my lunch, and thanked them for bringing
their GF products to the West Coast!
FYI, these Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakehouse goods are tasty, but they
aren't cheap. The breads were something like $7.89 per (fairly large) loaf,
while the biscuits were $6.89 or something like that. Ouch! I don't know
how expensive these products are on the East Coast, but I've noticed that
this Whole Foods is even more expensive than the one down in La Jolla (San
Diego area), which is a much more expensive place to live - go figure.
Anyway, I'm tickled to be able to buy these now, so I thought I'd let others
know too.
It's lovely how many more options we celiacs have than we did a few years
ago - thank you to this list and to others for raising awareness, and to
vendors for trying to serve us!! I feel very lucky :-)
