EDUCATE * INFORM * ADVOCATE

The American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) has been working for several years to help educate Members of Congress about celiac disease.

It is vital to EDUCATE before asking Congress to work on pressing issues like improved training for physicians or blood screening for individuals anemia or type I diabetes. We need to INFORM them about the prevalence of the disease, how long it can take to get diagnosed, and the lack of basic nutritional counseling currently available.

Members need to hear these facts from people from all age groups from all parts of the country. After hearing your story, your son's, or that of a friend, many times over, they'll ask questions of colleagues, and find out they know someone with celiac disease, too. Then, Members will be ready to ADVOCATE for the celiac community, to help us obtain insurance reimbursement for dietitian services, gluten-free foods for celiac students, and access to health insurance.

Please help educate Congress. Write to your Representative, asking him or her to cosponsor HConRes 70, and urging him or her to push for a floor vote as soon as possible.

You can email your legislator directly by going to the ‘Action Alert’ section on the ACDA website at www.americanceliac.org/advocacy.htm

Many in leaders in the celiac community have already endorsed HConRes 70, including the celiac research centers, NASPGHAN, and the American Dietetic Association. Other supporters are listed below.

We hope that you will join the ACDA and many others in this important effort!
If you want to add your group or organization's name to the list below, send a note to [log in to unmask] with HConRes 70 in the subject line.
