It was generally suggested that having a colonscopy was safe for a celiac
but that you should be certain your physician knows of your condition so
he/she can monitor your prep medicine and the anesthesia medicine.

It was noted that some of the phosphate laxatives used for a colonscopy
prep have been reported to cause problems. It was suggested that you look up
the prep the doctor wants you to use on the internet. One respondent's
physician used Miralax because the patient already had diarrhea and
bleeding and he wanted something gentle. It was good prep without much
pain.

It was mentioned that some contrasts you drink for xray can have gluten but
they were not named. One patient was given a short term anesthesthetic
propafol (sp?) that wore off pretty quickly.

There are many different ways to prep. Some said that the pills might be
an issue, but the liquid prep had ingredients listed. Everyone suggested
that you check with your pharmacist for the specific prep that you are
going to use.
