There is a Trader Joes in Alexandria, VA in Old Town.

I'm the head of the DC support group! Please check out our website (DCceliac.com) for a downloadable list of restaurants and grocery stores (check the left hand side for "members favorites". Also, if you tell me where you will be in DC, I can help point you to good restaurants and grocery store options.

I have had to travel to DC a few times, and have usually not had any trouble
eating when I focus on the downtown restaurants. They all seem to be quite
aware and willing to accommodate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whole Foods Market is in DC.
IF you like Mexican - Definitely try Austin Grill  - they have a lot of locations in the DC area - and they have been gluten aware for a long time - I went to the one in Old Town Alexandria.  Look up their locations on line.  It's a kid-friendly place also and not at all expensive.
at union station across from the capitol.   You can get  GF  pizza at UNO's   pizza.   It's   upstairs  from the main lobby.  Great pizza and GF beer( Redbridge).
   Also  in the basement  at the food court,  the Indian restaurant  is  Gf  except the bread(nan).
   Lots  of places  to eat   in DC.
there is a great group in the area http://dcceliacs.typepad.com/<http://dcceliacs.typepad.com/>
they have ALL the restaurants listed- when I visited my aunt there it was a life saver!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My favorite restaurant was the buffet at the Native American Museum. They mark which foods are gluten free and they are deliscious! There is a Legal Sea Foods at Crystal city I think it was. They have a website to find locations. They had gluten free rolls!

There are lots of good choices! We are in Falls Church, Va. (nearby
suburb of D.C.) and we would recommend the following:

Whole Foods (we also have Trader Joe's, but Whole Foods has a better
selection)
Giant Food chain now has gluten free products in a separate section.
Restaurants: all have gluten free menus
    Uno's (http://www.unos.com/kiosk/nutritionUnos.html<http://www.unos.com/kiosk/nutritionUnos.html>)
