The Portland-Vancouver Gluten Intolerance Group will host its annual educational conference June 4-6 at the Double Tree Hotel--Lloyd Center in Portland. The conference is intended to educate those with gluten intolerance and the families who support them. GIG, a nonprofit organization, started twenty-nine years ago with a goal to facilitate people with gluten intolerance through
diet alternatives, educational tools and more importantly, sickness due to gluten intolerance. GIG strides to provide information and the latest research about Celiac Disease, a hereditary auto-immune disease which can affect those with gluten intolerance. GIG hosted several events in years past to raise awareness about Celiac Disease, including the International Walk for Celiac Awareness in Seattle in March 2003. GIG maintains it's highly respected reputation around the world as a leader in the Celiac community.

This year's conference welcomes several health care professionals and authors who will discuss everything from symptoms and medications for celiac disease to recipes for gluten-free meals. The conference also has several events planned for children of all ages that will include crafts, videos and gluten-free treats. Lunch is included with registration and the entire family is encouraged to come.

Registration is a must and the deadline is May 22 ($290/$345). Those who register by May 1 will pay only $210/$250 for the entire weekend. GIG has reserved a block of rooms at the Double Tree Hotel--Lloyd Center until May 8/04. For reservations please call 800-996-0150 and ask for the Gluten Intolerance Group special rate. Please send payments to GIG--15110 10th Ave. SW, Suite A, Seattle, WA, 98166-1820 or fax credit card payments to 206-246-6531. For more information or to make a donation to GIG, call 206-246-6652, or email the Portland-Vancouver branch office at [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]
