Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any information to help me with some bloodwork
issues I'm dealing with.

Anyway, when getting CBCs for exhaustion over the last few years, I have
been coming up with Low White Blood Cell count, low platelets and now
enlarged red blood cells. My WBC is 2.5 (low critical) range is 4.0 -
10.1. Platelets are 136L with a range of 140-440. MPV (size of red blood
cells, I think) is 10.9 with a range of 7.0 - 10.5 fL. I have gone down
as low as 2.0 on the WBC three years ago, platelets were even lower last
year. Ferretin levels are fine now. I had my B12 levels checked last
year and they were fine, too.

I've been refered to a hematologist who wants to do a bone marrow biopsy
to rule out any cancer which of course, scared the heck out of me. It
just seems to ramp up so quickly. I told him I have Celiac, have a family
history of Pernicious Anemia, Anemia, etc. and he said that has nothing to
do with Celiac (surprise?).

I really, really don't want to do a biopsy if I don't have to!! I'm
wondering if there is any info out there showing this could be connected
to Celiac. I know it can be linked to Auto-Immune disorders and when I
did get "glutinized" it was in a big way, major reaction that seemed to
take months to get over. Small accidental exposures to gluten have
happened somewhat regularly over the last 2 years as I make mistakes or
someone else does (eating out, restaurants making mistakes). (I don't eat
out anymore...not until I get better.) We don't have any gluten in the
house except beer my husband drinks.

Some background: I am not a "classically diagnosed" Celiac. I went GF a
month before my dxed children to figure out all the complications and
challenges of being on a GF diet before I actually put them on the diet
(when tested I had only elevated IgA antibodies). I couldn't believe all
the symptoms that I had (at the time I didn't know they were atypical
Celiac symtpoms) just vanished...constipation, yeast overgrowth, foggy
thinking, bone pain, mood swings, leaky gut, etc. Since my children have
Celiac, (3 of the four have DQ2 and/or DQ8, husband has only DQ2), two of
my siblings are Celiac and my brother's daughter, I stayed GF assuming I
have some form of Celiac/gluten intolerance and I don't know anything else
that helps those symptoms. So I have been GF for 3 years now with
occasional accidental exposure that leaves me in rough shape. I don't get
any gastro symptoms except constipation...get really worn out, tired, bone
pain, foggy, grumpy, itchy, (the seven dwarfs!!), etc.

Any help would be appreciated...I hope to either educate the hemotologist
or find one familiar w/ Celiac/auto-immune disorders.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Kate
