Here is my story, any advice from someone who has a similar situation is
welcomed.  My son was 'diagnosed" with Celiac at age 1, and is now 34 years
old.  At that time his symptoms were projectile vomiting and diarrhea. I
read a paragraph about Celiac in Dr. Spock and took it to our doctor who of
course said it couldn't be as it was too rare.  However after we did some
experimenting with diet and collecting stool specimens, and consultation
with another specialist they confirmed "my" diagnosis (no blood test or
biopsy).

He was gluten free until about age three-four when it seemed he could then
tolerate gluten just fine.  No one told us that this might be harmful and he
didn't seem to have symptoms.  As he got into his thirties he seemed to have
a lot of digestive and generalized ill health issues and though we discussed
it once in a while, he did not see any connection to gluten.

A year ago I saw an article about new research on Celiac, and showed it to
him.  Within a few days he had gone completely gluten free and has been
pretty religiously so for about a year now. (Also is somewhat lactose
intolerant and avoids most dairy products.)  However, he still has to get up
to vomit in the night sometimes and still has some symptoms.  On the other
hand he also broke down one day and ate some chocolate chip cookies but had
no ill effects.  So this is very confusing to us.

I have not been able to talk him into getting some real testing done as he
has read the articles and says now that he is gluten free the tests won't
tell anything anyway.  Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there
who might have some advice about what is going on?  Is there something I am
missing that would help convince him to be tested?  Thanks for any insight
you can provide.
