First of all thank you to those who responded to my e-mail about my 3 year
old son who has been having troubles. Sorry I didnt rply to you all
directly...things have been crazy but we are gettign back to our routine
now.

So Ryan was in the hospital and they thought he had leukemia but luckily the
bone marrow test came back negative. He had a stomach virus the week
before and then the flu so they are saying it was all due to a bad viral
infection-

He RBC, platlets, hemoglobin were all very low and dropping in the hospital
so he got a blood transfusion.

He went to the hematologist 2 weeks ago and his blood levels are normal.
They are sayign it was all due to a viral infection. They consulted a
rheumatologist because had had been complaining on and off for the last 8
months his legs were tired from walking. But the rheumatolgy tests they
ordered came back normal.

I would love to think this was all just viral but i do worry somethign else
may be going on.

His bone marrow did show some inflammation and his endoscopy in sept showed
some inflammation.

The ferritin and D-dimer are elevated, consistent with non- specific
inflammation.

Ryan had prolonged PTT and he tested positive for the lupus anticoagulant
but further lupus tests did not indicate lupus. And the lupus anticoagulant
is often seen in children with a viral infection.

so bascially they are saying everything was normal???

so I will continue to keep an eye on ryan and we will periodcally see the
hematologist as well as our GI doc and pediatrician.

if anyone has any other advice I am all ears,

thanks,
suzanne
