A couple weeks ago, I asked if anyone else had trouble with sleep or digestion taking name brand Synthroid vs. generic. I seem to sleep very badly taking name brand Synthroid.

I got responses from a few people saying they felt better on the generic and others saying they felt better on the name brand. As one person reminded me, generics vary from maker to maker and sometimes batch to batch. Another person indicated that fillers differ from maker to maker. Another person reminded me that we have to trust our own experience regarding our reactions to medication. This was all good information.

For me, I think I must have an unusual reaction to a filler in name brand Synthroid since the intense insomnia sets in as soon as I take it, and it is my understanding that the actual thyroid hormone takes over a week to be used by the body. At this point, I've switched back to the generic I was taking before and no longer have the intense insomnia.

I think my main take away from the responses was that every body is different. We are certainly a group of people who have often learned the hard way that we need to simply trust our own experiences with medicines and foods.

Nonetheless, it is great to have this community to check in with. Thanks to all who responded.
