There have been a number of posts lately asking for GF stores, GF
restaurants, or celiac-knowledgeable physicians/dietitians for specific
geographic areas. I certainly do not want to discourage people from
turning to this list for help; the list members can be a valuable
resource with questions of this nature.

However, I wonder if another source of information for these requests
isn't being overlooked: support groups and resource people that are
actually located in the area for which information is requested. We
have three lists of support groups and resource people available from
the list: GROUPSUS for the USA, GROUPSCA for Cananda, and GROUPSIN for
all other countries. The USA and Canadian lists are fairly extensive
and all three lists are kept as up-to-date as possible. There are
usually several contacts listed for each support group, complete with
phone numbers and postal addresses. Many of the groups list one or
more e-mail contacts as well.

You can get any (or all) of these lists by sending a message to
[log in to unmask] (don't send it to the CELIAC address).
The message should contain one or more of these lines, depending on
which of the files you want:

   GET CELIAC GROUPSUS CELIAC
   GET CELIAC GROUPSCA CELIAC
   GET CELIAC GROUPSIN CELIAC

Of course, if you don't find a group near the location for which you
need information, or if the group is unable to help you, then you can
still turn to the CELIAC list for help. But you will usually find that
area support groups are a much better way to get geographically-
specific information, plus doing so will cut down on list traffic which
is not of general interest.

For the listowners,
