I received a number of suggestions, all but one of which are reproduced
below. One response was in the form of a telephone msg, suggesting
Authentic Foods bread mix with a braided mold. thanks very much to
all of you who took time to help.

Hi there. For challah I have used both the GF Pantry french bread mix and the
GF Pantry favorite sandwich bread mix. With either mix I use 3 whole eggs and
replace 6 ozs. of the water with an equal amount of milk. This makes a very
rich and (we think) moist bread. Brush the top with beaten egg white before
baking. The dough can't be braided--at least I can't manage to braid it. For
the high holidays I baked the dough in a round cake pan (regular or spring
form). You don't get the traditional spiral effect, but we did have a
delicious round challah (you can add raisins soaked in hot water if you want).
I do not use a bread machine as my daughter won't eat the results. I just do a
regular rising in the pan and bake it in a preheated oven. Good luck! If you
get any other promising leads, I'd be grateful if you could forward them or
post them to the list.

There is a Challah recipe in Bette Hagman book,"More From The Gluten-Free
Gourmet". Page 54-55

Betty Hagman's More from the Gluten-free Gormet has a challah recipe
which both my husband (the Celiac in our family) and I enjoy. I have
never had non-GF challah so I don't know how it compares to the "real"
thing, but it's tasty (and doesn't last long in our house!

It has instructions for bread-machine and conventional oven.

Robert, there is a very good challah recipe in Bette Hagmans book
More from the gluten free gourmet on
page 54, the dough is too soft to braid but it tastes very good
especially straight from the oven.If you need the recipe please let
me know. Enjoy your Shabbat's to come. Diane
