Hello,
I am in touch with a woman whose young adult daughter has been in the
hospital for quite awhile, on total parenteral nutrition and tube-feeding, unable to
eat anything. She is now beginning to eat again, but has trouble tolerating
anything.
She was diagnosed as an infant by improvement on a gluten-free diet, but
returned in adolescence to a normal diet, as her doctor told her she was in
remission and could eat normally.
Recently, she tested mildly positive on blood tests, negative on biopsy (she
had been gf for some time before the biopsy. Her doctors feel that her
symptoms at this time do not match celiac, and feel that she possibly never had it.
She has been tested for leukemia, Addison's, Sjogren, lupus (all negative). She
is hypothyroid, suddenly very anemic, has had gallbladder disease, and has
pancreas, liver, and kidney abnormalities. She has been gf since January, with
no apparent improvement. She has been told that she is having an "autoimmune
crisis," and treated with prednisone and the limited diet.
My questions are
1. Are there ways to control extreme nausea that might be specific for a
celiac, if this person is, in fact, a celiac?
2. Has anyone here had a health crisis like this, and how did you begin
learning to tolerate food again?
3. If anyone here has had multi-symptom mysterious illness, how have you
successfully found help for it?
Sorry if these questions are too vague and general, but I appreciate any
ideas!!
Thanks
