1.  You, Your Medication, and Your Pharmacist is the presentation at the
November 10th meeting of GIG of FL in Cocoa Beach.  Norman Tomaka,
pharmacist, is speaker at 1:00 p.m.
 
2.  Food Fair:  For those who did not attend the June meeting of GIG of
Florida, you missed out on a wonderful opportunity to sample a wide
variety of GF products.  It is impossible to describe adequately the
wonderful time  we all had.  The events are summarized by these two
comments:
 
        I will no longer laugh, when I see the word gourmet used in talking
about GF foods.  Everything that I missed is available with some research.
 
        Unknown to the group, there were gate crashers who enjoyed our GF
selection of desserts, pasta, and pizza.
 
It is impossible to describe the wide selection provided by these vendors.

Legumes Plus.
 
3.  ACS Annual Meeting date is November 9th, in New York.  Details were not

4.  National Organization for Rare Disorders will present their annual
patient/family conference in Dallas, TX on September 27- 29, 1996.  For

5.  CELIAC Weekend Conference on Columbus Day Weekend, October 11-13.  For
reservations: Call Camp Kieve at (207) 563-2188.  Camp Kieve is a retreat
on Damariscotta Lake in Nobleboro, Maine.  Cost is $400.  Lodging is not
included.
 
Conference includes: (1) All meals, (2) keynote speaker Bette Hagman, author
of Gluten Free Gourmet cookbooks, (3) Baking and bread making demonstrations
by Beth Hillson of The Gluten Free Pantry, (4) Presentations by physician-
specialists.  All food at the conference will be gluten-free and overseen by
Rebecca Reilly. Other workshops will be offered, as well as time to enjoy
canoeing, boating, swimming, saunas, walks, woods, and entertainment on
Saturday evening.
 
6.  Gluten Free Gang’s Annual Conference is Saturday, November 16th from 8:30
a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH.  The featured
speaker will be Jax Peters Lowell.  Dr B Li will give a research update.
Steve Plogsted PharmD will give a medication update.  Donna Rehm will give a
diet update.  Additional speakers will address osteoporosis, and dealing with
a child with a chronic illness.  Two sessions are planned for children's.
There will be several vendors selling their celiac products and a large
number of samples to hand out and to taste. The day ends with a potluck
lunch.  Last year about 150 adults and about 40 children attended.  Contact

7.  GIG’s 1997 Annual Conference has been set for April 19, 1997 in Seattle.

8.  Jax Peter Lowell, the author of Across the Grain has written her first
fictional book, Mothers, which is being made into a movie starring Goldie
Hawn.
 
9.  Exchange Students:  It is too late for the current school year, but
recently several requests have been received by US support groups
requesting a family to host a celiac exchange student.  Anyone interested,
can drop The ActionLine a note and we will attempt to effect coordination
with a student or a national organization involved in these activities.
 
10. GLUTEN-FREE LIVING is a publication dedicated to providing information
about CD.  It is written by Ann Whelan, a professional writer and a celiac.
The stories are comprehensive and timely.  It is an excellent addition for
anyone desiring a wide variety of information on CD.  Subscriptions are

11.  Thoughts on Children and CD is a excellent discussion on getting your
child involved with the responsibility of the GF diet.  This short paper is
from Sandra Leonard.  It is available by requesting a copy from The
