Hi,

I've been having some problems and I hope that some of you who have more
knowledge than me can help. I've been getting unexplained diarrhea after
eating foods that I have no problems with on other occasions.

I have been strict with my diet, but I am one of those non-reactive celiacs. I
was diagnosed about 5 years ago with somewhat flattened villi and positive
blood tests. I wasn't very compliant with the diet other than avoiding the
obvious stuff for a long time but never seemed to suffer any consequences
(honestly, I didn't believe the diagnosis because I've heard how sick others
get). Then, a year ago, I was getting stomach cramps and diarrhea frequently
so I got serious about it and have been very strict for the past year.
However, it seems that sometimes I get diarrhea immediately following lunch,
within half an hour, even if it is left-overs from food I had the night before
with no problems. It seems I can eat a food one time without problem, then eat
it another time and get diarrhea. I can't see any reason for this, it seems
random.

I suppose it's possible that my diet isn't perfect, but I'm certainly trying to
make it so, and try to err on the side of caution. I use the updated lists and
call companies. No doctor has suggested that I have a follow-up blood test or
biopsy, but I haven't shared this problem, I guess I'm afraid my insurance
won't pay. I'm also not sure if I trust the doctors here, I'm a grad student
on a University plan. I would consider asking to see a GI doc. I am about
ready to ask my doctor but want to be more informed first, and this group seems
to know so much. Does this sound like noncompliance with the diet? Does it
sounds like I have other intolerances? What about refractory sprue? I'd
appreciate you help, and hope no one yells at me for my years of noncompliance.
 Thanks so much in advance.

Diane
