Not about this plant.  However, everything in the article could be said
about gum arabic (also originally from the same region) which is already
widely available.  Even if this one turns out to be more effective, this
method of treatment could be used right now if anyone wanted to look into
it.

It's probably a lot like the weight loss and colon cleansing claims for
fiber.  Most soluble fibers do pretty much the same thing.  However, all
the widely-available ones are relatively cheap agricultural commodities.
The only time you see any promotion is when some organization controls the
source of supply.  And they are not going to tell you about the other
materials that do the same job--especially not if they are better or cheaper.
