Dear Ryan,

Thank you for your inquiry. ABC does not offer a gluten free cookie. The
overall sales for gluten free cookies is less than 1% of the total sales of
Girl Scout cookies. Volunteers and parents spend hundreds of thousands of
hours supporting the cookie sale as a way both for girls to learn important
life skills and also to generate revenue to support the overall work of Girl
Scouting. As a baker, our responsibility is to offer products that girls
can be successful selling and that will maximize the revenue to Girl Scout
councils so that they can serve more girls in their communities. In order
to provide the Girl Scout organization with quality cookies at very low
prices so that 2/3 or more of the purchase price can go to support the Girl
Scout Movement, it is necessary for us as a baker to offer cookies with
mainstream appeal. In addition, because so many of the girls who
participate in the cookie sale are younger than 9 years old, it is important
that we minimize the complexity involved in the sale. We are contacted
often with requests that we offer a cookie that addresses various food
restrictions. It would not be possible for us to provide a cookie for each
of these niche groups and - even if offering a niche cookie would meet the
needs of Girl Scouting - it would be impossible to choose one over the
other. We are committed to offering a healthful cookie with broad appeal
every year. In response to the growing research showing the importance of
portion control, we have introduced a single serve cookie for 2007-08.

We understand that there are dietary challenges related to Celiac disease
and we wish you success in meeting those challenges. As I am sure you are
aware, gluten free cookies are offered by Health Valley, Enjoy Life Foods
and Newman's Own.

Thank you,
Shelby Hudson
