I am sorry it has taken me so long to summarize but I wanted to have a resolution to report. I had asked if anyone had any advice/knowledge about getting the school district to pay for my son's GF pizza which they prepare for him (on a seperate, clean baking sheet, using dedicated utensils I provide). In the past I provided the pizza AND paid for a school lunch the days he ate them.

The answers I got fell into three groups:

1) Great question, I need the answer too. Please let me know what you find out.

2) Wow! I can't believe you actually get the school to prepare a GF lunch for him. Don't push it, just swallow the cost and thank your lucky stars.

3) My district provides the GF food at no extra cost and MUST do so under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Also, he should have a 504 the recognizes his special need.

Resolution:
I got a call asking me how much the Pizza cost ($3.50 ea.) and was told it would be worked out for the school district to reimburse me for the pizza.
So, what did I learn? First of all the law, morality and ethics are on my side. While my son is not eligible for a 504 (we went through the CSE a while back due to fine motor delays) because this is a nutritional issue not an educational one and it does not interfere with him getting an education, he is covered by the ADA. Also, if we just accept what is given us, without demanding that our kids be treated with equality and respect, they will never learn how to advocate for themselves. While I could afford to pay for the pizza, the next family may not be so lucky. Now the district has a policy in place that will be evenly administered.

Thanks for all your answers.
