There *may* be some genetic mutations that create predispositions to
creating conditions in which CP is likely to occur but by and large, I
disagree with this. Why? Because I don't know of a single CP person who
has a family history of CP. I myself certainly don't. But I do know that
my mother smoked and drank during the pregnancy (you have to remember that
in those days they weren't considered harmful to fetuses) and I was
prematurely born with a low birth weight, both significant factors in
incidences of CP.

Subject: Genetic Link to CP??

Here's something I found on BabyCenter -- take a look!

Australian study seeks genetic roots of cerebral palsy

When I first saw the title, I thought "No way!", but then in reading
it, maybe...

Heck, my mom and I both have Factor V Leiden which is a genetic
mutation to be more prone to blood clots. When we learned I had it
and then mom too, we realized that was probably why she had so many
miscarriages and that I came early...placenta bloodclotting...thus
why I must take injections of blood thinner when pregnant and be
monitored closely...

Any thoughts?

Linda
