Actually, I don't totally dislike snakes, they can be beautiful creatures,
but I have a healthy respect for them. My Texan grandfather used to say,
"He's as to be trusted as a rattlesnake in August," which I never did figure
out. I've been close to snakes in the wild when camping and/or hiking but
of course didn't step on them or anything like that. Closest I ever came
was almost stepping on a water moccasin in the trail at Hilton Head Island
preserve one summer. Fortunately my friend saw it and pulled me away, fast.
Those are the fastest, meanest snakes I know of in the Southeast.

I've got an old friend who's deathly afraid of snakes; he won't even watch a
television show if it has a snake in it. My niece is the same about
spiders.

Kat
