The book I believe is called Phantoms in the Brain, it's another must read
for arm chair neuroanatomy, neuropsych folks.  It's deep though.

Yes I do. There were a couple of guys in Houston, as a matter of fact, who
wrote a book on the physical origins of our body image. The used amputees
and
phantom feeling(pain) as the basis of their work. What this guy is saying is
not all that different from what they proposed in the '60's. Fisher &
Cleveland are the guys names.
