I used a bike horn when I was in high school.... One of those "cans of
air" with a horn attached would work really well!

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Subject: RANT ALERT - Scooters & Other Large Chairs At Big Cultural
Events...

Hi everyone:

First off, the the Yahoo! Groups, please forgive me for having this be
my
first post. I'm not normally such a ranter. :)

That said, here it goes.....

I was out today in my scooter at the big cultural arts event called "A
Taste
Of Colorado" (WEBSITE - http://www.atasteofcolorado.com / if anyone
gives a
damn), figuring it'd get me out of the building for a few hours and away
from the insanity, right. Well, if I had known what was waiting for me
upon
arrival, I would stayed home.

I mean the crowd there was HUGE. What's worse is that much of it was
also
DUMB & STUPID as well.

I mean if people weren't in line at the various vendor stands waiting to
order something or to buy tickets or weren't busy talking to the
merchants,
they were standing in the middle of the street where 300 other people
(including myself in my scooter) were trying to get around them as did
whatever they were doing (Be it talking to someone, eating or busy
working
that thing in their ear better known as a cell phone).

I mean it was INSANE.

I was TRYING to discreetly record a podcast using my iRiver (With it
tucked
in my shirt pocket so as to not attract attention since there are
staging
areas for musical artists), but that got shot all to hell as I was able
to
focus on was the insanity of the IDIOTS who could care less about
WATCHING
WHERE THEY WERE GOING, so long as they ACTUALLY GOT to where they were
going.

Meanwhile, I'm in my big Pride Victory scooter trying to navigate my way
through the insanity. And when *I* got something to eat like a Mexican
Hamburger from one vendor, I wound up spilling half the sauce onto my
pant
leg from the chinet paper plate it was on while I looked for a place off
to
the side (And navigated my way over to it) and out of the way to park
and
enjoy my food.

And I wasn't alone. There were quite a few of us in chairs of some kind
and
I have little doubt they had just as much difficulty as I did.

It got to the point where I was tempted to just simply run people over,
but
I knew that wouldn't be right and it'd probably get me escorted off the
premises.

Anyhow....Have you guys been through something like this? If so, what
do
you do to prepare for it? How do you handle it? Bil (Who's getting a
BCC
of this post), since you're a blind person, how do YOU handle such
events
with large crowds?

Comments anyone?

END OF RANT. :)

Cheers :)
