Actually, it's a lot more complicated than that, there is also Down syndrome
mosaic and a couple of other Down syndromes that fall under the rubric Down
Syndrome, each one has different manifestations on genome but, may look
similar to classic Down syndrome.

Hi Bobby,

   They don't need to - all they need to qualify as Down is had a a trisomy
of the 21 chromosome - so that instead of 46 chromosomes they have 47. That
what's it Down's Syndrome. While the degree of facial involment and the
degree of IQ involvement vary - the Chromosomal thing doesn't.
