Hi Bobby,

I am a 3rd year honours English student at Carleton University in Ottawa,
Ontario. Its a very accessible school-- We have underground tunnels to all
university buildings so we don't have to go out in snow or rain, or look for
curb cuts. I live 8 hours away from home, and we have an attendant services
program here where other students are trained to help us with the activities
of daily living, though I do most things myself-- can walk short distances
around my room but use a power wheelchair for longer distances. I continue
to struggle with chronic pain from spasticity, and have tried Ativan,
Baclofen, Clonazepam, Oxazepam, and now the Zanaflex, which has terrible
side effects for me. It really affects my ability to do schoolwork, and I am
sometimes jealous of my suitemate, who can do very little for herself, but
has athetoid CP and is not in pain. I have had a selective dorsal rhizotomy
in May, 2000, but still have major problems with spasticity, so my
physiatrist wants me to look into intrathecal baclofen. We'll see what
happens. I just know I can't take Zanaflex, and have called the neurologist
regarding how to wean off of it, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Jenn
