Bobby, et al,

In the first year of residency, MD's (or DO's, for that matter) do what
pretty much amounts to the internship in the past, in which they are
rotated through most, if not all specialties. You'd think Senator Frist
would have encountered someone with CP in that experience.

Secondly, Senator Frist was a cardiothoracic surgeon, so I'd think he'd
have encountered people who weren't able to come off life support after
surgery, and have knowledge of dealing with families and/or spouses who
were facing the horrendous decision that Michael Schiavo and the
Schindler's were facing with Terri.

That's why I was surprised about his support of the emergency bill in
the Senate.

Over the weekend, I talked with my sister (decidedly liberal) about it,
who said "Come on. Frist is a politician now. You can't expect him to
think like a doctor!"

My dad is a retired surgeon, who had to decide, with his sister (my
aunt) and mother (my grandmother) whether to discontinue life support
for my granddad after heart surgery. They did, which is a decision that
I think was in my granddad's best interests, as, barring a miracle, he
never would have been able to come off the vent. One of the differences
was that they were all able to agree on the course of action that seemed
appropriate in granddad's case. That's the thing that would make
legislation nearly impossible, because there isn't really a "typical"
case like this.

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

First Frist is a cardiologist. I have had to explain what cp is to
many
MD's. Having little or no knowledge
of what cp is, I would say, typical of most MD's. Secondly.
"neocons" is a neologism and a pjorative one at that.
I am a moderate and your logic appears to be a bit flawed.
