Trisha,

I'm not so sure I agree about most Dad's today...if they're around.  Most
fathers I know (WASPs), if they're in the home, do contribute significantly.
Still, not to the same level as Mom, but much more so than when we were
babies.  Of course, my experience is with middle-class midwesterners--other
groups may be different.
