Here are a couple of links for you to check out. The first has a nice overview of the anatomy of the hand/wrist and links to info on ortho problems. The second will give you descriptions, names and functions of the various muscle groups in the lower arms. The third has some cool x-ray shots of the upper limbs.

FWIW, I think your doc should be doing this. You can write up a draft but he should be filling in all the medical jargon at the very least! :-)
