Just wanted to tell this list about a book I have just completed(I have
time to read now that I am retired). The book is entitled, "Descartes' Error:
Emotion, Reasoning and the Human Brain" by Antonio Damasio. Damasio is a
physician and professor of neurology at the University of Iowa. The book is a
argument against the mind/body dualisitic thinking characterizing most of
medicine and psychology at this time. The author begins his book with some
fascinating case history, including the man from almost every beginning psych
text, Phinneas Cage. Cage had a bar blown thru his skull and brain and lived.
I must warn you there is some "heavy" reading regarding neuroanatomy and
physiology, but Damasio makes some fascinating points.
