On March 4, 2001, I became father to a beautiful baby girl Susan Elizabeth
Jeffries. Her mother Sherry Thompson has CP and her parents had Sherry have
her tubes tied in 1998. I thought when I broke up with Sherry we could just
go our separate ways and I could start my life with Lorri. I found out on
Halloween that Sherry was not only pregnant but approximately 5 months
pregnant. This was very shocking on all three of us and Sherry's parents.
Their first words were when they were told was for Sherry to have an
abortion. It was well past that time. The next step was from UCP to tell
Sherry to put the baby up for adoption. UCP was under the impression that
Sherry was seeing several guys and I may not be the father.

The problem on this chain of thought is that the only guys she was
seeing were in chairs and needed assistance. That in itself is not the issue
but there is something that only Sherry and I know about the one that Sherry
was seeing the most and if this would have went to full trial it would
seriously embarrass UCP for making such a statement. Anyway, I had to break
things off with Lorri because if this was truly my daughter honor demands I
take responsibility for my actions. Lorri I hope you can forgive me for
doing this but I could not let agencies destroy another disabled persons
dignity. When Sherry and Susan was ready to be released the hospital said
that Susan could not be released to us and Children's services had to be
involved. To make a long story short. I went to court and I finally got
custody of Susan on June 5. There's more to this but I've got to go Susan's
crying

live for yesterday, ready or not we're going to have our way"
