Hello to everyone,

My only option was to try making books for my daughter (spastic
quadriplegic cerebral palsy). I bought a manual binder (only 59.95 at
OfficeMax), the paper, the covers, and the plastic binding combs to make
them. I can get her school to laminate the pages before binding them.
You can get the binding combs for 1.99 which is 25 to a box (price
depends on size), paper 5.99 for 250 sheets, covers 7.99 per set of 25 (
can be cut into halves or quarters depending on size of book you want.
Combs can be cut to size of book). It is cost efficient. It is
possible to break down a paper back and laminate the pages and then bind
them. If a child is in school or if he or she is homebound the school
system can do the same thing for the child. It is classified as
assistive technology which will enable the child to learn (even if that
child may only be capable of only learning ADL's or needs visual or
sensory motor stimulation, they qualify.) This is a good method for
those who are capable of learning academics. If the child is in a child
development center, they also can provide this service. Just remember
this is your child's right and it is the law. I did not mean to get on
the later issue. I do have a manual on what the school must provide and
the public laws that provides those rights to your child. I will be glad
to post any of the information you want. If I can't find it, I have
contacts who can tell me.

My daughter drools excessively and then puts her fingers in her mouth to
play with it. She can get things quite messy. She did have her
submandibular salivary glands removed, because she drooled too much. I
would have to change her clothes 4 or more times a day and wash her hair
several times that day. It is much better, but she still has lots of
secretions coming from her mouth ( she also has a tracheostomy
tube, mickey button, seizure disorder, vocal cord stenosis, scoliosis,
asthma, non-verbal, unable to walk, developementally delayed, and
legally blind, but she can commando crawl, sit up, sign language, and is
capable of learning).

Take care,
Virginia Q
