We've been quite lucky so far this season as it's been worse to the east of us, closer to Raleigh than here. But yes, normally, we do get it worse than other parts of the state.

I've never forgotten, back in 1995 or so, when we had an ice storm that was so bad, it knocked our power off for five days. My mother was on oxygen by then and she was hooked up to a concentrator that ran on electricity and so we were on the list to be one of the first customers to go back on when the power was restored, which worked as long as the crews could get the power back on. We ended up slipping and sliding to my sister's house 20 miles away in two vehicles - a truck and a van - with four-wheel drive, which is virtually useless on ice. My sister and her husband were on the local power co-op, which amazingly had their custmers up and on power the whole time which was far better than Duke Power, which is a much bigger utility company.

Anyway, when we got back home, the family room was full of soot from the fires we had burned in the fireplace and the bathtub was dirty from the poor cat having had to use it as we had not been there to change the litter box (we couldn't take her with us as my sister is allergic to cats). She (the cat) survived the frozen temperatures then better than she did my being out of town for a few days last year. Oh, and I remember it took a really long time to feel warm in that house again. I was sleeping in my cold-weather sleeping bag for days.

Park when a nasty storm came through. IBM's parking lot was on a steep
grade and when I came out of the building after work to drive back to the
hotel, the rental car had slid down to the bottom of the hill...along with
a
couple dozen other cars!

I don't know why, Kat, but it seems that area of NC where you're located
seems to get the nastiest ice storms.

We may get that freezing rain tomorrow - temperatures are supposed to go
back down and it's still supposed to rain.

chose to chance the drive in. Since the kids have a "snow day" I can just
imagine what would happen to my productivity. ;-)

Oh yes! Up into the 50s today. :-D A bit too warm for January if you ask
me but I'm not complaining. It's raining but it's not so cold.

Weather's warming up a bit here. Hope it's doing the same in NC.
