I'm not sure how to answer this...

Do you know what CD's are?  OK, a DVD is like a CD, only you can store a lot
more data on a DVD disc than on a CD, and you can play movies on DVD discs on
a DVD player.  It's like a VCR except it plays the DVD discs.  Some DVD
players can also play video tapes by including a slot you can slide a video
tape into.
