My 2 cents:
At the grand old age of 48, I've gotten to the point that people's remarks
no longer bother me. If they don't like me or reject me because of my
disability, that's their problem, not mine. I don't like everybody in the
world, why should everyone like me?
My motto: If you treat me with respect, I'll treat you with respect. Treat
me with comtempt, and I'll return the favor. However, in the workplace, I
let emotions slide into the background, as the job is no place for one's
likes and dislikes to affect one's performance. Professionalism is the key
here.
I know I may sound harsh, but to tell you the truth, after years of letting
people get to me, I got tired of it, and decided to focus on my own
well-being, and not let people upset me. Not an easy task, I can tell you,
but well worth it.
