There is a barrier island off Brownsville(Padre Island or South Padre)
where you can get beach property. Many "Winter Texans" live up river from
Brownsville, other known as the "Valley" as in Rio Grande Valley. It used
to have a lot if citrus farms there. It is commercialized now. But there
are Palm trees, etc.
similar to Florida. The main "valley is around McAllen. We spent one summer
in Zapata which is about 90 miles north of McAllen. It was pretty desolate.
