As a person who has had Professor Smart as well as a "person with CP" for
classes in her rehabilitation program I find myself in an interesting
position to respond to this. One of the things I often disagreed with her
on back then and still do is the way she tried to define the disabled
community.

She seems to forget that no matter how we schoose to refer to ourselves,
whether it be handicapped, disabled, gimp (note the movie King Gimp),
whatever doesn't change who we are.

This reminds me of a humorous moment during a class period. A friend who
was a quadraplegic, injured in a motorcycle accident, and I constantly
referred to each other as "gimp" one day Ms. Smart heard this and needless
to say we heard her wrath for this.
