Hi Trish,

I don't know, but it certainly wasn't contemporary with 1605 - not many
Europeans found it very palatable for at least another 100 years!!  In fact I
suspect the "tradition" post dates the invention of "tin foil" ;-)

Getting a well cooked "Jacket" from the embers of a bonfire is definitely more
art than science!! One potato can be both burned on one side and hard on
t'other. Give me "bonfire toffee" any day.
