Joy-

I didn't say that it was cheaper or more expensive. What I'm saying is that
anyone using inferential stats can supply reasonable support for their
stance.

A "gut" issue never seems to be resolved for people by using something as
simple as a list of "if/then" statements. You can't make sense of emotions,
and the death penalty is an emotionally charged issue.

In the '60s, during the "Peace Years", there was a pop song that said,
"People carrying signs, saying mostly 'Hoo-ray For Our Side'." The
songwriter was stating the obvious: people who feel strongly about a
certain issue can only be objective about that issue if they back away from
it.

My opinions about the "death penalty"--and many other social issues--change
as I get older, experience more "life", garner more knowledge and experience
more life-changing events. I don't base my opinions on data, but gut. I
think most folks who are twenty or more years out of college would not
recognise themselves from two decades back if the only cues where how they
felt about the world around them.

That's what I'm asking... Why do you believe that the death penalty is less
expensive than life imprisonment, if you're not using statistics as a basis
for your opinion?
