Trisha,

If that's the Catholic theology, they obviously didn't see my dog when
his toe got caught in the ramp on my van. He looked at me, between
whimpers, as if to say, "Please Dad, get it loose. It hurts, and I'm
scared." I've attended several churches that do pet blessings
frequently.

This Q&A discusses animals souls vs. human souls quite nicely:

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.
-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950
